Thursday, December 22, 2011 - Pay It Forward - Alyssa Miller

For Alyssa’s “Pay it Forward” she chose to donate to a local hospital right across the Hudson River. The Center for Pediatric Cancers and Blood Disorders at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ.

St. Joseph’s treats a variety of blood disorders and cancers from birth to adolescence. Donations go to the general hematology/oncology clinic where it can be used for either the child life program, where toys and Birthday gifts are provided for the children in the clinic. Or it is used for the integrative therapies program. This is a program where a licensed acupuncturist performs acupuncture, massage, acupressure, and aromatherapy for the children to complement the chemotherapy their getting and to try to reduce side effects of the treatments.

Thank you so much Alyssa!!

Monday, December 19, 2011 - Pay it Forward - Susan Kay

Water changes everything ... this is why Susan chose charity: water for her Pay It Forward. Water is so important in our everyday lives, so it is unfortunate that there are people around the world who don't have access to clean water. Almost 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water are of children under five years old. These diseases could be prevented just by improving water supply and sanitation. Charity: water's project is to create wells for clean water that are near by villages and they also mandate sanitation training. The overall goal is to significantly cut down disease rates in the developing world and improve sanitation.

We can't thank Susan enough for choosing such an important cause. Thank you!!

Monday, December 12, 2011 - Pay it Forward - Lynn Husum

"Where Dreams come true"  These 4 simple words were written on a plaque I saw and I thought if life could be that simple.  Lynn chose to donate her pay it forward to an organization that makes this happen if even for just a day.  The Make A Wish Foundation has a mission to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Talking to families that have been granted wishes, scrolling the recent wishes at the organization and seeing the after effects of a dream come true are enough to encourage anybody to be involved.

Everybody has a dream and unfortunately some of us don't have long enough to see it realized without a little help.  Thank you Lynn for helping dreams come true.

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 - Pay it Forward - Harald Husum

  1. At Appaman, we have a tight knit family of friends that have helped with their time, craftsmanship and commitment to the brand. Recently two of our dear friends lost their daughter and it has been an overwhelmingly sad realization. Harald would like to use his Pay it Forward donation in memory of LULA NEAVE WALKER MURRAY and donate to a charity the family has recommended, Extreme Kids & Crew. This organization aims to create a haven for children with disabilities and their families, a beautiful gym and arts center where children and parents can play, learn and grow in a warm, creative and understanding environment.

  2. Thank you Harald for your donation to such a worthy and personal cause.

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 - Pay It Forward - Jennifer Ward

Jennifer chose to donate to Hope North. She believes that children have the right to education, medical care and a thriving childhood in a safe environment. In Northern Uganda, tens of thousands of children have been abducted to serve as soldiers in a brutal civil war. This area is one of the most underreported humanitarian tragedies to date. Hope North was created to give education, vocational training, community, hope and home to these young refugees, orphans and former child soldiers. Bravo to the Hope North Founder Okello Sam and to Jennifer for helping create awareness to this extremely important cause!

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 - Pay it Forward - Cristina Polo

Cristina chose to donate to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF).  Cristina has a nephew that has recently been diagnosed with dystonia.  It is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily.  Dystonia causes varying degrees of disability and pain. There is ongoing research to better manage and treat this disorder and this is what Cristina hopes will help her sweet nephew in the future.

Thank you Cristina

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 - Pay it Forward - Appaman HQ

**PLEASE NOTE : Our event has been pushed to Jan 7th, 2012 at 12noon!

To kick off our 7 Weeks of Giving, we thought we'd throw an event and choose a charity that touches everyone. We have all had brushes with cancer affecting someone close and dear to our hearts. So we figured we would throw a family fun event and give 100% of the proceeds back into cancer research. Our charity of choice is Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer.

Our event is called '1st Annual Appaman Gowanus Grand Prix'. A family fun event to kick off the Holiday season in full support of a great foundation that provides funding of 200+ projects leading towards cures and improved quality of life for children with cancer. Our goal is to raise at least $1,000. You can check our progress as well as donate HERE. If you would like to know more about our event, you can visit HERE.

Cheers - Team Appaman

Monday, November 14, 2011 - New Expanded 7 Weeks of Giving

This year there is so much we want to give that we had to add a few weeks into the program.  Once again we launched the season with a large donation to Baby Buggy, a great organization that redistributes new and gently used clothing/gear to families in need.  We were thrilled to donate boxes of warm winter clothing, something that will most definitely come to good use.

We are also revisiting our Pay it Forward Appaman/Employee plan.  Each of our full time employees will pick a charity of choice and Appaman will give a donation to said charity.  Check back to see where these donations go and the reasoning behind the choices made.

A new addition is our very exciting Gowanus Appaman Grand Prix Charity event for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.  Keep posted for event details and ticket information!!

It is truly the most wonderful time of the year and we are excited to give back big this year!

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - Might just be the coolest news we have ever had to share!

Our Appaman team in Hong Kong are at it again!  To launch the line at Harvey Nichols they are thinking BIG picture.  They wrapped a tram and postered bus stops throughout the city. There is nothing cooler than seeing your brand flying down the street with people peeking out the windows.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011 - Oops we did it again!

Congratulations to our team down in Hong Kong on their exciting new launch of Appaman's boutique counter in the very prestigious Harvey Nichols in Pacific Place.  Lynn and Harald were honored and excited to visit last week.  The space looks stylish and the vibe was fun.  It is such a creative team working on the brand in HK, we are thrilled to be a part of their master plans.
