Tuesday, December 07, 2010 - Lynn's Pay it Forward Contribution

When I met Harald 12 years ago I was living in a Mayan Village on the Rio Dulce in the jungles of Guatemala. I was delivering babies by candle light, sewing up machete wounds and treating every type of GI disorder known to man. I was living in a clinic with moldy sheets for walls, fighting off fire ants, scorpions and Giardia. I had limited electricity and limited resources, but I did have a dug out canoe, a beautiful view, and many grateful patients It was an experience I will always be grateful for and one I am very proud to have been a part of. I was a Family Nurse Practitioner volunteering for 9 months at an amazing organization called Ak'Tenamit.

Ak'tenamit is a grass roots, Maya organization dedicated to improving health, education and family incomes in eastern Guatemala. The region Ak'Tenamit works in is one of the poorest in Guatemala and the public health situation there is alarming. The budget is very small by health standards and is less than $20/person served. The quality of care being offered to these people is amazing considering the conditions and resources. My pay it forward goes to Ak'Tenamit Health program and the Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund. I have seen firsthand what a difference they are making in the lives of this part of the world and it is tremendous and nothing if not inspiring.

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 - Harald's Pay it Forward Contribution

Since he is the boss-man we are letting him go first. Harald decided to give his Appaman sponsored contribution to "Right To Play".

www.righttoplay.com

This is an amazing organization that speaks to Harald. Their mission statement is "to improves the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace." On Harald's travels throughout the world he has always seen a common thread. Where ever he was, the children always wanted to play. They'd ask him for a ball, they'd want him to play with them, they'd even be kicking around balled up plastic bags if necessary, but they wanted to be in the game.

Right to Play makes this need possible for children all over the world and if there is one right a child should have, after food, shelter and love, it is to PLAY.

Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 5 Weeks of Giving

Every year at Appaman we try to give back to our community and the world around us.

We launched our 5 weeks of giving with a large new clothing donation to Baby Buggy, an organization dear to our hearts. Baby Buggy does a phenomenal job of redistributing clothing and gear to children in need. The launch also included sending boxes of clothing and accessories to the LYFE program in the South Bronx. This is a Board of Ed. program that helps young mothers complete their degrees while taking care of their newborn babies so they can accomplish this necessary step. Our donations help with incentives for the mothers aiding advances in self esteem and self worth.

This year we decided to add a new element to our giving program. We plan to let our employees pay it forward too. All of the full time Appaman employees received $300 to pay it forward however they saw fit. Over the next weeks each employee will share, here in the News section, how they chose to spend their dollars and why that decision was made.

Everyone is excited to have this opportunity to spread it around and work with organizations on a local and global level. Keep checking it back, it should get interesting

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 - Appaman in Budapest

We were so thrilled to see the Jolie-Pitt crew running around Budapest in their finest Appaman duds. Pax is seen in our adorable peacoat and Zahara is seen in our very stylish Silver Moon Long Puffy Coat. They are casual cool and hitting the town in some seriously cute outerwear and we are honored that it is Appaman.

Monday, October 25, 2010 - The Air Up There

We have had a love affair with Canada for 4 years now. It is all due to our phenomenally talented distributors, Do-Gree Fashions. They have shown a commitment to Appaman and have grown the business season after season. Stephanie Couillard is the most dedicated, efficient and lovely person to work with. She is also the captain of our team up North. She mans a crew of sweet, diligent and hard working reps. Because of their dedication to the line we have a positive reputation and are in an amazingly high number of boutiques in the great white north. We just wanted to give credit where credit is due.

Appaman Do-Gree Team:
Stephanie Couillard – Division/Sales Manager
Jessica Rossitto – Quebec & Maritimes Representative
Armando Papini – Ontario Representative
David and Kris Robins – Prairies Representative
Sandra Bradford – British Columbia Representative

We thank you and all our vendors in Canada for their longstanding relationship to Appaman!

Sunday, October 10, 2010 - Inspiration From the Ends of the Earth

People are always asking Harald where he finds inspiration. Well, for this season he honored the Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen with an exclusive Norwegian Explorer's Collection. This Collection, which is available now in stores, includes 10 pieces that draw on the Polar expedition. Two of the featured pieces are the Polar fleece and a Polar down jacket, both have great detail with patches that show photos from the expedition.

Amundsen is a Norwegian hero and his accomplishments of being the first team to reach the South Pole has provided Norwegians with a great sense of pride. Harald has always had a thing for explorers and having this opportunity to tribute the 100 year anniversary of this expedition was thrilling.

Turns out we were not the only ones tributing the anniversary... There is an exceptional exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History called Race to the Ends of the Earth.

Check it out. It is great for adults and kids and will be on display until January 2011.

Monday, September 20, 2010 - He makes the day move in mysterious ways

So you may have already heard but we filled a new position at Appaman. We had to wait the necessary trial period and once our new member was vested he was embraced by everyone.

His name is "Party Hat". He is a furry ball of energy that is one part klutz, one part lazy, one part mischevious and all parts freakin crazy cute. He is a Cockapoo that was bred with the best in New Jersey.

He comes to the office every day, providing hours of entertainment and a great excuse for a walk on a nice day. He is loving the office politics, hangin' at the water cooler, chewing on accessories and napping under the printer.

We love him and hope this gives you all an excuse to stop by

Friday, September 03, 2010 - Her dreamy pencil drawings beckoned us into her world

The ACC (Artist Capsule Collection) contribution for Fall 2011 is from the welcomed work of Rachel Salomon.

She was raised in the mountains of Utah. She spent afternoons with her grandmother surrounded, by her Japanese art, mid-century modern furniture, antiques, illustrated storybooks, and books about painters. She competed as a downhill ski-racer, traveling throughout the World.

She studied Fine Art at Brown University, and Illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. Her clients are as varied as Blue Note Records - The New Yorker. She showcases in Galleries around the country. We were thrilled she agreed to work with us and we are proud to have her art in our collection.

Check out her website for more of her truly inspiring work at www.rachelsalomon.com

Saturday, August 14, 2010 - We Got Her and We're Not Letting Go

We are pleased to announce the newest member of the Appaman Dream Team.

Her name is Alyssa Miller and she hails from Passaic County, NJ. She has been in the industry for a while, working at a showroom, so many of you may already be familiar with her charm and amazing work ethic. Her favorite food is pasta but she has enjoyed the plethora of Asian delights we feast on in the office. Her favorite location for respite from the grind at Appaman is in the Netherlands where her extended family resides. She is a sucker for anything glow in the dark...

Call the office to introduce yourself, send her some stars for her ceiling, but most of all welcome her to our ever growing family of AWESOME
!

Friday, July 30, 2010 - Back to School Already

Well here at Appaman HQ we are gearing up for back to school.

Harald and Lynn will officially have two girls going back to school and that is HUGE. They received their box of clothes last week and were thrilled by the skinny jeans, jeggings, sweatshirts and tees. The girls are serious Brooklyn tomboys so now they are suited up and ready to learn.

Beyond personal stuff, the rest of the country is also heading back to school and hopefully they are doing it with style. To honor the school year we have put together what we believe to be our most impressive collection to date. It is hitting the stores as this post is being typed. Check out your local vendors or shop online, but the collection has something for everyone so please check it out, drink your milk and have a great school year!
