How warm does your kid's coat need to be?

• Warm: For fall and mild winter days. Lightweight puffers, sherpa-lined jackets, bombers, and vests that layer easily, like the Heritage Jacket and our kids' vests.

If your child runs hot or you live somewhere with mild winters, a Warmer coat is usually enough. For long walks to school in freezing temperatures, choose Warmest.

Short puffer or long coat?

Hip-length puffers are easier for active kids to move, climb, and play in, and they're the most popular everyday choice. Mid-length and long coats, like the Park Ave Long Puffer and the Nova Long Coat, cover more of the legs for extra warmth on the coldest days.

How should a kid's winter coat fit?

A winter coat should leave room for a sweater or hoodie underneath without feeling tight across the shoulders. Sleeves should reach the wrist when arms are extended, and the coat should zip closed comfortably over layers. Check the size chart on each product page before ordering. If your child is between sizes, size up for layering room and growth.

Can kids wear puffy coats in car seats?

No. Safety experts recommend removing bulky coats before buckling kids into a car seat, because the padding compresses in a crash and leaves the harness too loose. Buckle your child in, then put the coat on backward over the harness or use a blanket.
