Washing
Many Appaman suits are machine washable. Turn the jacket and pants inside out, fasten the buttons and zippers, and wash on a gentle cycle in cold water with similar colors.
Velvet and some specialty fabrics may need dry cleaning, so always follow the care label.
Drying
Dryer heat can shrink the fabric and set creases. Hang the jacket on a shaped hanger and clip the pants by the hem so they air-dry smooth and keep their shape.
Pressing
A handheld steamer takes out wrinkles in minutes. If you iron, use a low setting and a press cloth, or turn the suit inside out, to protect the fabric face.
Spills and stains
Act fast. Blot with a clean cloth and cold water, working from the outside of the stain in, so it doesn't spread. Pre-treat before washing, and make sure the stain is gone before the suit dries.
Storage
Use a wide or padded hanger that follows the shoulder line, never wire. Store the suit clean, in a breathable garment bag rather than plastic, with a little room around it in the closet.
Travel
A garment bag folded once is best. In a suitcase, fold the jacket inside out along the shoulders and lay the pants flat on top. Hang everything as soon as you arrive, and steam out any creases.
