Measuring for Jackets and Coats
Outerwear fits a little differently, since it needs room for the layers underneath. When measuring for a boys' jacket or coat, have him wear a sweater or hoodie similar to what he'll layer underneath, then measure around the fullest part of his chest over that layer. For sleeve length, start at the center back of his neck and measure over the shoulder and down to his wrist bone with his arm relaxed at his side.
